I paid a settlement for less than the amount owed ?

My credit report is showing that "the settlement was paid in full". I recently got some more money and I am looking for ways to improve my credit score. Can I paid the rest of the original debt after paying a settlement in order to improve my credit score? will the creditor make an update to improve my report?

  1. no once its is satified you can’t pay the difference. It is paid and that is all that matters, the score don’t reflect weather it was paid in full or not just the notes reflect that. Those are only on there for 7 year from original delinquency date so just wait it out.

  2. Paying off derogatory items won’t improve your score. The damage is done and will remain for the balance of the 7 year reporting period, whether paid, settled, or unpaid.

If the account is showing as settled in full, why would you volunteer to give the collection agency more money? That debt no longer has a balance due.

  3. This will not drastically increase your score even if they agreed to accept payment in full. Your best bet would be to use the extra money to secure a prepaid credit card or negotiate a loan and use the new found money to pay the loan back. This will have a much higher and positive impact than if you were to pay out a stagnant loan/credit card on your credit report.

  4. No don’t bother since it will not improve your credit. The only thing that will improve your credit is paying your bills promptly
